Grow
Funtastic Creations encourages the development of the whole child through movement and therefore our programs encourage growth in physicaland psychological domains. As such, participation in our programs helps to enhance children’s fundamental cognitive awareness of themselves and the world around them.
There are two aspects of cognitive development that can be dealt with effectively through movement education. These are “perceptual-motor concepts” and “academic concept readiness”.
Perceptual-motor Concepts
This involves the development of body awareness, spatial awareness, directional awareness and the establishment of kinaesthetic sensitivity (an effective time-space orientation). To enhance children’s knowledge of their special world we should involve them in movement activities designed to contribute to their body awareness, directional awareness and spatial awareness. The temporal world of children may be enhanced through activities that involve synchrony, rhythm and the sequencing of movements. Selected visual, auditory and tactile abilities may also be reinforced through movement in a variety of ways.
Academic Concept Readiness
This involves the development and reinforcement of increased understandings and appreciations of fundamental academic concepts involving science, mathematics, the language arts and social studies through movement. Using movement activities to enhance the understanding of basic academic concepts usually results in better learning in young children.
